Deborah K. Marré |
By Deborah K. Marré
I came to Texas Children’s Hospital six months ago and I’m
thrilled to report it’s everything I anticipated it would be.
The excitement about the hospital’s mission, the staff and the
patients are inspiring. I’m pleased to be a part of this
incredible institution and to work with a medical staff that
routinely performs such extraordinary miracles. I encourage you
to drop by so that I can introduce myself and we can talk about
how the Medical Staff Services & Education Department can best
serve your needs.
The department’s primary responsibility is to ensure that each
Texas Children’s Hospital medical staff practitioner is properly
credentialed and recredentialed in a timely manner and
delivering quality patient care and services in compliance with
the accreditation guidelines.
Renovated lounge provides calm
refuge
The Medical Staff Services & Education Department also maintains
the Franklin J. Harberg Physician Lounge and the Randolph L.
Schaffer Physician’s Resource Center (PRC), which are located on
the first floor of the Abercrombie Building in Rm. A180, just
off the SLEH Bates Street entrance. Medical staff members can
access the newly renovated lounge – an excellent place to relax
and enjoy a cup of coffee and a moment of calm – by swiping
their Texas Children’s Hospital security badge. The PRC is
available to both house staff and medical staff members and
includes a computer access area where online resources can be
viewed and printed; access to Logician so that medical records
can be completed; and a reading room, the Greer Library, that
contains a variety of texts and journals. Other online resources
may be viewed by connecting to the intranet page:
http://intranet.tch.tmc.edu/physres.htm.
Don't miss Grand Rounds
In addition, the Medical Staff Services & Education Department
works with the Continuing Education Committee and assists with
the coordination of Pediatric Grand Rounds. These programs are
held each Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the lower level Texas
Children’s Hospital Auditorium. Medical staff members can also
attend Grand Rounds at one of the designated broadcast sites.
The schedule and broadcast sites may be viewed at:
http://bcmpeds.org/Display_Grand_Rounds.cfm. We maintain a
record of attendance in our database. Although these CME records
are sent to attendees annually, please contact our office and
we’ll be glad to fax or e-mail your most current listing.
Additional services are available
Other services provided by the Medical Staff Services &
Education Department include coordination and management of the
quarterly medical staff meetings and all committee and
department meetings; house staff services; assistance in
obtaining remote access to online resources; provision of notary
services; and acting as a resource for information related to
licensure, continuing education, and credentialing and
privileging standards and practices.
It is my hope that we can serve as the central resource for
members’ needs within Texas Children’s Hospital. This goal is
not a new one and we are very fortunate to have enjoyed an
excellent working relationship with the physicians at Texas
Children’s Hospital for many years. What is new is our desire to
begin to measure our success at meeting your needs so that we
can better develop and improve our processes and services.
It is my philosophy that if we can make the credentialing
process as simple as possible, provide services that support and
assist you in your practice, answer your questions and resolve
your problems in an efficient and timely manner, you will have
more time to spend with your patients – and that is exactly
where I want you to be. I look forward to meeting you and
sincerely appreciate your comments and suggestions.
Deborah K. Marré, CPMSM, CPCS, is director of Medical Staff
Services & Education at Texas Children’s.
