New Welcome materials ease the way for hospital patients and families

Texas Children’s Hospital will launch a trio of printed pieces in late February that will help patients and their families navigate the main campus and increase their awareness of available resources and services.

These three Welcome pieces, which replace the old Parents Passport, contain maps and a directory of information – everything from patient services to family and guest services to billing to safety and security, privacy and patient rights and responsibilities.

For hospital inpatients, a vinyl book will be wall-mounted in every patient room with color-coded flip cards in English and Spanish that families can use as a reference tool. They also will receive a companion folder with a “quick guide” and other condensed information, which they can carry with them as they move about the campus.

Outpatients will receive a separate folder with similar information that’s been customized for the needs of families who come and go.

Both folders have pockets for families to store information they receive about their child’s care and the content in both is in English and Spanish.

A supply of folders has been ordered by individual inpatient and outpatient units and will be delivered to them for distribution to families.

Refer questions about the Welcome materials to Cindy Shanley in Marketing & Public Relations at 832-824-2180.

New online Medical Staff Manual is available

The new Medical Staff Manual has been posted on the Texas Children’s Hospital Intranet Physician Resource page. Initially created under the leadership of past President Dr. Robert Warren, it is a dynamic, online document that will be continually updated so that medical staff members always have the best information at hand to help make their work effective and efficient.

The manual includes information about medical staff membership, governance, rights and responsibilities, and also detailed information about all the major organizational units in Texas Children’s Hospital.

Please refer to the manual often, and as you spot opportunities for its improvement, please pass those along to Medical Staff Services.

Info line provides another resource

An information line for physicians has been established, 832-824-DOCS. The line will be regularly updated with information about upcoming Pediatric Grand Rounds topics and will serve as a crisis information line for physicians in times of community emergency. If you have any questions, call Medical Staff Services at 832-824-2296.
