Telemedicine program in action - Texas Children's Center for TeleHealth

TELEHEALTH
Texas Children’s
Center for TeleHealth

Established in 1993, the Texas Children's Center for TeleHealth was the first pediatric-based telemedicine program to "go live." The Center for TeleHealth continues to facilitate timely diagnoses and treatments, link researchers and patient populations at a variety of sites throughout the country and promote networking among physicians, healthcare providers and healthcare institutions.

The Center for TeleHealth provides clinical, educational and research services to remote areas within the United States and internationally. This is made possible through state-of-the-art approaches employing multimedia, information and telecommunication technologies available within the Center.

The Center provides distance educational services to physicians, nurses, allied health care providers, students, and to patients and their parents using videoconferencing and Internet technologies to deliver real-time instruction from the TeleHealth Studio in AB130 to interactive participants.

A monthly series of courses for nursing and allied health professionals continues through 2007. Classes are held in locations around Houston, at one clinic in McAllen and several regional education service centers.
