Kinesiotaping in Pediatrics: Advanced Techniques and Problem Solving
Level K3
August 16-17, 2008

Course Description
This two-day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with a specialty in pediatrics with information and instruction on Kinesio Taping methods. Kinesio Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders and edema control. This method can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapies. Attendees will review theory and basic taping techniques, learn advanced and combination techniques, and develop clinical reasoning skills. The course will also provide commonly used taping techniques for specific diagnosis (cerebral palsy, hemiplegia, torticollis, brachial plexus injury, and sports related injuries).

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop good knowledge of basic kinesio taping principles, properties, and techniques

  • Be able to identify three specific muscle synergies patterns and kinesio tape techniques to facilitate muscle balance and alignment.

  • Learn 4 advanced taping techniques

  • Become familiar with commonly used taping techniques for specific diagnoses.

  • Be exposed to adjunctive treatment options for specific pediatric diagnoses.

  • Be involved with problem solving to develop clinical observation skills.

About the Instructor
Patricia Martin, PT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently manager of satellite services at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation. She is pediatric NDT trained and has taught the pediatric taping course nationally.

Audrey Yasukawa, OT, Certified Kinesio Tape Instructor, is currently a pediatric resource clinician at The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She is pediatric and adult NDT trained. She has over 20 years experience with upper extremity casting.
