Texas Children’s Hospital will bill
your health-insurance company for your child’s hospital stay. See
our list of
health plans accepted by Texas Children's Hospital.
However, you must pay for your portion of the hospital bill.
If your child is not covered by
insurance, you will need to pay the bill or make payment
arrangements before your child leaves Texas Children’s. You can pay
by cash or check, or with Visa, Discover, American Express or
MasterCard credit cards.
You also will need to make a separate deposit to pay for your part
of the doctors’ services.
You will receive separate bills from
your child’s physician, anesthesiologist, surgeon, radiologist,
pathologist and other healthcare providers.
Review our most commonly asked
billing questions.
Texas Children’s Hospital’s charity
policy and admissions policy explain how the hospital determines a
patient’s eligibility for charity care.
Families who wish to apply for charity
care or obtain a copy of the charity and admissions policies should
talk to an admissions counselor by calling 832-824-5500 from 7 a.m.
to 6 p.m. weekdays. Texas Children’s Hospital participates in
Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) and is
eligible for additional reimbursement from the Disproportionate
Share Hospital Fund.
Our financial counselors can help you
search for resources to pay your portion of the hospital bill or can
arrange a payment schedule. For assistance, please call 832-824-5500
between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays.
Your hospital bill will list the
services and supplies ordered for your child by the doctor. You will
receive the bill approximately 10 days after your child’s discharge
date or date of service. The bill will include all charges made
before the mailing date. Sometimes, a charge or credit is added to
your child’s account after the mailing date. If this happens, we
will mail a revised statement. If you have any questions or concerns
about your bill, please call 832-824-2300 or 1-800-722-2570.
Keep in mind that charges you may have
been told about during your child’s hospital stay are only
estimates. If your insurance company does not pay us within a
reasonable time, we will inform you. Each month, you will receive a
statement of your account. This statement will reflect the current
balance, payments received and other changes in your account. You
can mail payments to:
Texas Children’s Hospital
P.0. Box 4494
Houston, TX 77210-4494
Charges from the doctors are not
included on your child’s hospital bill. A separate bill will be sent
to you by the doctor or doctors who cared for your child. For
example, you may receive bills from pediatricians, surgeons,
radiologists, anesthesiologists and pathologists.
