From Dr. Tapia
Dr. Tapia’s research interests are focused on quality improvement in the medical home, with an emphasis on children with special needs. His research goals are to understand how systems of care affect health outcomes for children with special needs, develop effective educational programs for health professionals regarding children with special needs, and promote community capacity for quality medical homes. Present studies include “Family-centered Mental Health Supports for Children with Special Needs” and evaluation of the “Texas Medical Home Initiative” pilot. Future studies will examine the effectiveness of specialized programs of care for children with medical complexity, comparison of quality of life for children with special needs in different state programs, and understanding the national capacity to care for medically complex children.
