    From Dr. Duryea

My emphasis is medical education and curriculum development for a variety of settings and different levels of learners.  As a member of the Section of Academic General Pediatrics (AGP) and as a preceptor for the Pediatric Residents’ Primary Care Group (RPCG), my primary responsibility is to model and teach general pediatric skills.  Paramount to my goals as a teacher is to provide competent and compassionate patient care and to demonstrate this to learners.  The majority of my clinical teaching time is spent with pediatric residents as we work together to provide ongoing care for the RPCG patients.  Over the years, I have also mentored a number of students and supervised the AGP fellows as they precept in the clinic.  I have a long history of advocating for Reach Out and Read on a local, regional, and national level.  I organize and facilitate the weekly Primary Care Lecture Series for the pediatric residents and students, plus I lecture on many general pediatric topics.  As director of the Community Pediatrics Rotation for medical students, I developed curriculum for the students and nurture ongoing relationships with pediatricians in the community.  As one of the first graduates of the Advanced QI course here at Texas Children’s Hospital, I plan to share this expertise with a variety of learners and to model the practice of quality improvement in the clinical arena.  I believe in exemplifying the importance of on-going self-directed learning.
