Course Details
Our comprehensive, easy-to-use curriculum uses engaging multi-sensory techniques and research-based methods to make handwriting a natural and automatic skill for children of all ages and abilities. We use a fun hands-on approach to develop good skills and teach correct letter formation. The HWT K-5 Handwriting Workshop workshop provides dynamic instruction in the teaching methodology from kindergarten through cursive. It is an intermediate level class.
At the end of the lively HWT Kindergarten-5th Grade Handwriting Workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand the handwriting process and how to make it accessible and engaging for children
- Plan exciting, active lessons to teach fine motor skills and posture for writing
- Understand the developmental sequence of handwriting and how to create multisensory lessons that inspire students and promote a love of writing
- Identify appropriate strategies and transition time from printing to cursive
- Identify common handwriting problems and implement simple, effective remediation techniques
About Katrina Erickson, OTR
Katrina Erickson received her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She has over 18 years of pediatric experience providing services to children in acute care settings, private clinics and within the educational setting. Her extensive experience using the Handwriting Without Tears® curriculum includes private clinic practice; school based intervention, as well as private tutoring services. Katrina is a Program Specialist with 9 years of experience as a National Workshop Presenter for Handwriting Without Tears®.
