  • Specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of neuromuscular diseases in children

Affiliated with the Muscular Dystrophy Association

The Blue Bird Circle Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of neuromuscular diseases in children. We are affiliated with the national Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Pediatric neuromuscular diseases evaluated and treated in the clinic include a group of more than 30 genetic diseases characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of the nerves and muscles that control movement.

Some forms of neuromuscular disease occur in infancy or childhood, while others may not appear until middle age or later. These disorders vary in the distribution and extent of weakness, age of onset, rate of progression and pattern of inheritance. Common conditions we treat include:

    • Spinal muscular atrophy
    • Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease
    • Myasthenia gravis
    • Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy
    • Congenital myopathies

We provide comprehensive, family-centered patient care, education and research for families of children with neuromuscular diseases. Our team includes pediatric neurologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, physical medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons, social workers, a neuropsychologist, a psychologist and trained volunteers from the Blue Bird Circle (link)
