Texas Children's Pulmonary Medicine Clinic ranks among the nation's top three pulmonary services, according to Child magazine's 2007 survey.

This clinic's pediatric pulmonologists provide care for a wide range of respiratory disorders in addition to asthma and cystic fibrosis.

The clinic sees patients with:

  • acute, chronic or recurring upper or lower respiratory infections
  • congenital malformations of the respiratory system
  • acute or chronic lung injury (e.g., bronchopulmonary dysplasia, pulmonary interstitial pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis)
  • control of breathing disorders (e.g., apnea of prematurity, sleep apnea)
  • acute life-threatening episodes
  • pulmonary aspiration from neuromuscular disorders or gastroesophageal reflux
  • chest wall or respiratory muscle disorders (e.g., respiratory complications of scoliosis or muscular dystrophy)
  • pulmonary complications of immunodeficiency, chemotherapy or congenital heart disease and patients with chronic respiratory failure

The clinic has a special interest in the technology-dependent child and can assist in the home management of patients requiring ventilation, tracheotomy, oxygen and/or apnea/bradycardia monitoring. The clinic has a team who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of primary and secondary pulmonary hypertension as well as a diagnostic lab.
