The wheelchair program is designed to measure, fit, modify and adapt seating and mobility systems for any and all children who contact the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department for an appointment. We service Harris as well as surrounding counties and accept referrals from pediatricians and other therapists as well as school districts and community social workers.

At least one wheelchair vendor is present for each of the scheduled appointments. Each appointment includes a comprehensive seating and mobility evaluation performed by a physical or an occupational therapist.

The wheelchair program addresses the most simple of all seating systems to the most technologically advanced with regard to contouring/positioning and independent mobility, including walkers, gait trainers and bath equipment.

A social worker is available to assist with questions regarding available resources. A physician's order/prescription is required to obtain a wheelchair.
