  • Baylor Teen Health Clinic

Initially founded as a once-a-week adolescent maternity service, the Baylor Teen Health Clinic has grown to meet the community’s pressing need for teen pre-natal care and education, and today is a seven-clinic system providing primary and reproductive care and health care education to indigent/medically underserved adolescents and young adults 13-25 at little to no cost.

The clinics are located in areas readily accessible to the population served — including 2 Houston Independent School District campuses — and offer family planning, wellness and sports health checkups, STD screening and treatment, prenatal care and counseling services, all provided in a manner that is respectful and relevant to young people. A unique, teen-friendly website describes the programs and services offered; many are geared toward helping young women and couples manage teen pregnancy, offering both prenatal care, parental education and counseling to promote the development of stable, nurturing relationships that stop the cycle of family disintegration and reduce the risk of abuse and infant mortality.

    Community Impact 2011

    • 21,399 preventive medical visits and 8,568 social work visits. For many of the patients, the clinics are the sole resource available for their needs, including important health screenings.
    • 101 young men in the fatherhood/work training program.
    • 256 couples receiving maternity and postpartum consultation through the Centering Pregnancy Program.
