The Construction Owners Association of America announces the hospital’s newest facility as a Gold Award winner for the 2012 Project Leadership Award Program
HOUSTON – (Nov. 5, 2012) – Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, the premier 15-story, $575-million state-of-the-art facility for women’s, fetal and newborn health was awarded a Gold Award for the 2012 Project Leadership Award Program from the Construction Owners Association of America (COAA), during the association’s fall conference in Orlando, FL.
According to the COAA, the Gold Award is the top honor in the Project Leadership Award Program, which annually recognizes excellence in project delivery. The award is intended to acknowledge exceptional leadership and project management skills in renovation and new construction projects. The design and construction of the 1.3 million-square-foot Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women facility, completed in March 2012, was managed by the facilities, planning and development project management team at Texas Children’s Hospital.
“It is an honor for our team to receive this prestigious award from the COAA,” said Jill Pearsall, director of facilities, planning and development at Texas Children’s Hospital. “We are very proud of our part in bringing the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women from vision to reality. This beautiful, functional, best-in-class facility is helping Texas Children’s fulfill its mission of offering exceptional patient care and advancing the quality of women’s healthcare as a whole,” she added.
The construction of the Pavilion for Women marked the birth of a new era for the nationally-ranked children’s hospital as it expanded into obstetrical and gynecological care. The new facility is also the first hospital in the Texas Medical Center designed to facilitate the practice of family-centered maternity care, an evidence-based model that involves the family throughout the birthing and postpartum care process and promotes better outcomes of newborns.
“The project management team delivered a landmark achievement on time and under budget,” said Cris Daskevich, senior vice president of Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women. “Our physicians, nurses and staff have been very pleased by the quality of the facility and the attention to detail that went into the design and construction. The project management team is most deserving of this acknowledgement and award.”
Situated in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women is one of the few hospitals worldwide to offer a full spectrum of maternal and fetal medicine services including an array of fetal diagnostic procedures and highly specialized fetal surgeries. Level II and Level III NICU care is provided in 36 private rooms, four of which are specifically designed to accommodate multiples. A two-story circular sky bridge connects the Pavilion for Women to Texas Children’s West Tower and Clinical Care facilities, enhancing patient care by providing physicians, staff and patient families with rapid access to all patient care facilities.
